I'm still alive

I've been very lazy in regards to updating my lj. It's the result of two combining factors, a: Access to the internet only on weekends, which is also the only time I have with my family. Since it is summer, the weekends are usually filled with various activities. b: the temperature. When it's so warm, I spent less time in front of the computer.

There's not much to tell now, the weather's getting warmer. I've been working, traveling a bit (Lüneburg for work, Bremerhaven, Bremen) spending time at the beach, done some more shopping. Just regular summer activities. My keyboard skills are completely messed up, I'm currently typing on a German keyboard with an Icelandic keyboard setting. It was ok until I started typing at work, with a German keyboard and a German keyboard setting. It'll take some time after I stop working for me to get over this phase.
I have now stopped looking for clothes for the trip to Crete. I think I have enough. But I can hardly wait, the trip will be great.

You may expect my lj to be updated rather rarely this summer.
It will get better in the fall...hopefully ;op

Here I am

I have been way to lazy to write anything here. I was in Reykjavík, as you perhaps know, but now I'm in Germany with my family. I have done a little bit of shopping since I got here. Two pants, two sweaters, a skirt, a pair of shorts, a shirt, a necklace, a pair of earrings, a handbag and three pairs of shoes. I was desperately in need of shoes.
I think that's all I've bought of clothes and accessories since I got here.
I've got a job in Lüneburg, answering the phone, being at the reception, writing letters and just doing things that come up and need to be done. It's very nice. It does mean that I can only stay with my family at weekends but it's a fine job.
I went to Hamburg a week ago (some of the shopping was done there) and there we saw Bill Clinton. I found it very interesting, you don't expect to see Bill Clinton on the streets of Hamburg. He turned and waved at us, he was about 6 meters away and waved directly at us.
The weather is great, I'm sitting here in a short skirt and a bikini top. I just came in from our backyard because I had to escape the heat for a while

I know I've been away for some time, I don't use the internet very much these days. There's not much going on, I'm enoying myself in Reykjavík, although I can hardly wait to go home to my family.

I'll make it short, since I've got to run.
I'll post again soon.
Tschüss.

Exams are over

It's sweet. I love being able to read what I want, watch TV when something I like is on and just to have some spare time to do whatever I want. I am currently reading The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown and loving it. I find it so fascinating but I know that had I started it before the last exam was over I wouldn't have been able to focus on those books until I'd finished this one.

I just read an e-mail from one of the teachers that comes with us on the graduation trip. It made me realize that in only 82 days, I'm going to Crete. I can hardly wait. I probably won't see my friends again until we meet in Leifsstöð, but when that happens it will be great.

Mornings...

I actually like mornings. Particularly when I'm not in a rush and don't even have to be awake. I'm rather fond of sleeping as well, so I don't often get up very early. This morning, however, I woke up just before half past four. I couldn't fall asleep again so I got up and started reading math. After about an hour I had had enough and went out for a walk. I went to the park, I've never been there before six in the morning. It's actually closed at that time but the gate was open (it's actually being fixed and can't be closed). I walked around in the fog for fifteen minutes, it felt like being in a world of my own. I could hear birds singing in the trees (yes, that kind of bird, not a seagulls) and it was very relaxing. It felt so nice, I could forget about everything, exams and all, and just be me, alone in a mystical world, the world still asleep.

Of course, it had to end. But it was nice while it lasted.

I had my first exam today, it was my first math-exam.
I think I did fine.
I'm not in the mood to study for my next exam (which is also mathematics).
Right now I'm on a break.
I'm sitting in my window, the doors leading out to the balcony are open, it's the only way to get a connection from my bedroom.
Therefor, using the internet can cause a very cool temperature in my bedroom.
I'm just thankful that the temperature is a positive number, otherwise I doubt I'd bother.
I must go now, 3 dimensional geometry awaits.

I watched Eurovision on Saturday. Of course I did, one can't miss that.
My cousin made one excellent comment:
"Once a year, you force yourself to watch bad music for an entire evening, and force yourself to enjoy it. Then, when it comes around next year, you've forgotten how bad it was and watch it again".
I always enjoy Eurovision, but different standards are required than usually.
I found out that next year I can go to Bjarg for Body Balance three times of week instead of two (me very happy).

The day after tomorrow I get to meet my mom. I can hardly wait, I'm so looking forward to it.

Always enough to do, my life keeps me from getting bored.

I'm sitting in a geology class and I'd like to translate a part of my notes:
"The ice brings cold and white bears that eat people, dogs and porridge".
These notes can be rather peculiar.

This week I'll attend school every day from Monday and until Friday. It's strange. Last week has not been very eventful, rather sedate. I did go marching in a parade last Thursday. I had a math exam last Friday, calculated the length between Havana and Lissabon. Nothing new happening.

I got my physics reports back, A, A and A-. Quite acceptable, especially since they took a long time in writing.

On Friday I baked a cake with Lori, it was very good even though I had a hand in making it. On Saturday we ate it...mmm...

I find it rather difficult to start writing again after I take a vacation. But here I am, at last.
Germany was great, we had so much fun there. We visited the Alps and Austria, walked up the world's tallest church tower, bought chocolate, visited a nuclear power plant and a biological farm, found a great ice cream shop that sold italian ice cream, visited castle Neuschwanstein, walked around downtown Ulm and did a lot of other interesting things.
The easter vacation was a very sedate time, I didn't do much of anything and had nothing to do with the internet for a week and a half (a long time for me).
Now I'm back in school, which is very nice.
But there are only five weeks to go until exams... time really flies.

I haven't posted anything for a while, I know. I've been extremely busy over the last few days, especially with my trip to Germany coming up.
Last Monday we had a sports lesson (as always) and I was dreading it. We were supposed to play volleyball, a sport I'm not particularly good at and my likeness for it is somewhere along the lines of my capabilities. But it turned out well, only 9 people showed up (out of 20), no-one was any good and we had a great time. It can be fun to play volleyball when everybody sucks, not just me.

I'm leaving tomorrow night, I can't really believe it yet, it's still so unrealistic. I have a lot to do before that, so much work, but it'll all be over soon. I'm so looking forward to this trip, it'll be great. I probably won't post very much until after easter.

And if you hadn't figured it out already, I decided to go to Ulm.

At last

After one semester and six weeks, someone decided that students just might read books. And might need a bookcase. So I finally have gotten one. I couldn't wait so long and bought a bookcase in October or November, but it's very good to have more space. Then I can bring in more books...

Choices

I think living a simple life would be extremely comfortable, I sometimes wish for a simple life. But is my life really that complicated or is it my fault? Do I make things more complicated by myself?

Last Saturday I participated in the finals of the National Icelandic Mathematics contest... or something like that. I have no idea how to translate that properly into English. I did ok, in my own opinion. And as a result I have the right to participate in the Nordic mathematical competition, which takes place on the first day of April. My only chance of making the olympic team is by doing extremely well in that competition. The only problem is that from March 26th until April 4th I'm supposed to be in Ulm.
Now I have to make a decision. Should I give the trip to Ulm up for the vague possibility of making the olympic team? Or should I give up the possibility to make the team for the trip to Ulm?
I need to make up my mind. And that very quickly, since the trip to Ulm is in 10 days. I've wondered about this all day. And now my dad said that if I decide to give up the trip to Ulm, he'll buy my a plane ticket home for easter.

This is all very complicated. I sometimes wish I could just live a simple life, free of these complications. But I now I really wouldn't give all this up, despite the difficulties that follow.

I took the colorquiz test.
Some of this fits, at least.
Here are my results:

Your Existing Situation
Acts in an orderly, methodical, and self-contained manner. Needs the sympathetic understanding of someone who will give her recognition and approval.

Your Stress Sources
Has an unsatisfied need to ally herself with others whose standards are as high as her own, and to stand out from the herd. This desire for preeminence isolates her and inhibits her readiness to give herself freely. While she wants to surrender and let herself go, she regards this as a weakness which must be resisted. This self-restraint, she feels, will lift her above the rank and file and ensure recognition as a unique and distinctive personality.

Your Restrained Characteristics
Willing to participate and to allow herself to become involved, but tries to fend off conflict and disturbance in order to reduce tension.
Feels that she is receiving less than her share and that there is no one on who she can rely for sympathy and understanding. Pent-up emotions make her quick to take offense, but she realizes that she has to make the best of things as they are.
Circumstances are restrictive and hampering, forcing her to forgo all joys and pleasures for the time being.

Your Desired Objective
Needs a change in her circumstances or in her relationships which will permit relief from stress. Seeking a solution which will open up new and better possibilities and allow hopes to be fulfilled.

Your Actual Problem
Feels insufficiently valued in her existing situation, and is seeking different conditions in which she will have greater opportunity of demonstrating her worth.

Life's just full of good things

Ratatoskur was on Monday and Tuesday, which was fun. Tuesday evening - the singing contest. That was amazing, I liked the number that won.
Yesterday was easy, only three lessons out of seven.
Tomorrow I only have 4 lessons out of 7 (other than some people that have no lessons... I'm not bitter at all, no).
Saturday - belly-dancing course in the morning and chocolate-fondue with the girls in the evening.
Sunday - the library opens again (after being closed for a month)
In eight days I'll go to Reykjavík.
In three weeks I'll go to Germany.
After that: Easter holiday
In May I'll meet my mom,
this summer, the rest of my family.
And in 174 days, I'm going to Krít</b>.
Life really is filled with good things...

I think MA-ingar are very strange. About a hundred of them were willing to spend their Saturday driving in a bus for hours to listen to a debate contest, have dinner and drive back home.

Needless to say, I am one of these strange people. It was really rather fun, except for the fact that the bus broke down, we had to wait for almost an hour for another bus and just barely made it in time for the debate. Which also meant that we couldn't go to Kringlan... :(
In the 20 min intermission we ran over to Kringlan, to Hagkaup and Nammibarinn... mmm... I enjoyed the debate, although we lost. It was, in my opinion, a very even competition and our team did very well... it just went the way it went.
